Cynthia Barnett, Director of Campus Recreation, reports that the University Recreation Project has moved forward through the work of two committees: the Building Committee and the General Committee.
The first group, the University Building Committee is comprised of two Student Co-Chairs, Andrew Garton and Lindsay Brownsberger; Cindi Barnett, Co-Chair and Director of Campus Recreation; Doug Sampson, University Architect; Ken McClure, Interim VP for Administrative and Information Services; Earle Doman, VP for Student Affairs and Katheryne Staeger-Wilson, Director of Disability Services. This group has been working with Cannon Design for the past two months validating the program and exploring space concepts.
The second group, the University General Committee, is comprised of the members of the Building Committee plus additional student representatives and other members of the campus community, with an emphasis on keeping a diverse group of members that can provide input with a wide variety of perspectives. This committee met with the architects in October to provide program validation input. They will again be meeting in December to review the space concepts.
Final approval of the space concepts for the building is anticipated in December 2008. There are also two websites that have information about the project:
