Financial Aid Basics

Applying for Federal Student Aid

Students apply for federal student aid by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA application becomes available for the upcoming academic year on October 1 (priority deadline is February 1). It is recommended students complete the FAFSA on or around this date to be considered for maximum aid each year. Additional information can be found on the Office of Student Financial Aid's How To Apply website. Missouri State University's FAFSA code is 002503.

Applying for scholarships

Missouri State University's earliest scholarship deadline is December 1 for the following academic year. Visit the university's scholarships website for scholarship opportunities, criteria, application information, and deadline dates.

Emergency funding

There are times where students find themselves in situations where immediate funding in necessary and federal financial aid has been exhausted. There are some emergency funding resources available. See the Financial Assistance Emergencies portion of this website for additional detail.
